Art History I   ART 2301
Credit: 3 hrs.

This foundation lecture course traces the development of the visual arts from cave paintings through the 17th century. Works from Prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman through Early Christian, Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque art will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed upon understanding the various examples of painting, sculpture, and architecture both in the context within which they were created and as part of the larger picture that constitutes the history of art. Co-requisite:  ART 1311 Drawing I, ART 1316 2D Design. This course is part of the Foundation Program-(F)BRIC. (Three hours per week)

Art History II ART 2302                                   
Credit: 3 hrs.

This foundation lecture course follows the development of styles begun in the late 17th century to the profusion of styles in the 20th century. Emphasis will be placed upon the beginnings of the various styles and their contribution to the mainstream of what is known as modern art. Prerequisite: ART 1311 Drawing I, ART 1316 2D Design, ART 2301 Art History I, Co-requisite: ART 1318 4D Design, ART 1317 3D Design. This course is part of the Foundation Program-(F)BRIC. (Three hours per week)

Drawing I    ART 1311

This foundation studio course provides a comprehensive and systematic introduction to the art of drawing, focusing on the mastery of traditional skills as the basis for expressive drawing. The course offers an introduction to the range of subjects, media, and techniques that provide a framework for developing individual ideas and approaches, with expression as the goal. Co-requisite: ART 2D Design, ART 2301 Art History I. This course is part of the Foundation Program-(F)BRIC. (Five hours per week)

2D Design     ART 1316
Credit: 3 hrs.

This foundation studio art course explores the fundamental elements of basic two-dimensional design. Through production of a professional portfolio and final design projects, the student gains an understanding of problem solving as it applies to two-dimensional design. Students develop proficiency in color mixing and the handling of a variety of media in preparation for future art courses.  Co-requisite: ART 1311 Drawing I, ART 2301Art History I. This course is part of the Foundation Program-(F)BRIC. (Five hours per week)

3D Design      ART 1317  
Credit: 3 hrs.

This foundation  studio course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of three-dimensional form. The student will become familiar with the language and elements of sculpture and with the various types of sculpture and the technical methods and processes. The course permits exploration and experimentation with a variety of materials.Prerequisite: ART 1311 Drawing I, ART 1316 2D Design, ART 2301 Art History I, Co-requisite: ART 1318 4D Design, ART 2302 Art History II. This course is part of the Foundation Program-(F)BRIC. (Five hours per week)

Design 4D    ART 1318
Credit: 3 hrs. 

This foundation studio course in drawing and design builds upon the traditional skills gained in the first semester and moves towards the understanding and inclusion of time. It provides a wide range of experiences for the student, reaching beyond traditionally static solutions.Prerequisite: ART 1311 Drawing I, ART 1316 2D Design, ART 2301 Art History ICo-requisite: ART 1317 3D Design, ART 2302                  Art History II.
