Help with ENG 2301 Exam Preparation
Some WWW Sites to Help with Exam Preparation:
List of names to know for the ENG 2301 Final Exam
Norton Websource for World Literature, the companion site for the Norton Anthology of World Literature, 2nd ed., has reviews, interactive quizzes, crosswords, maps, and other materials. This is the anthology used in ENG 2301, but materials on the site may be helpful to students in both world literature courses. (In some cases the materials deal with units that include many works not read for this course, but in other cases, as for the Epic of Son-Jara, the assigned work is an entire unit.)
World Literature Online is the companion site for the Bedford Anthology of World Literature, used in ENG 2302. It too has materials dealing with works studied in both courses.
Most of these links are to summaries, though some go to aids of other kinds. Several are to the Spark Notes site, which gives character lists and summaries. These links are provided as aids for review, not as substitutes for reading! These instructors have other materials posted: Dr. Dervin, & Dr. Wall. (Students in other sections may also find these materials useful.)
An Interactive Game to Help with Review:
On the pages below, use the special Back buttons on the pages themselves (top or bottom center of the page), not your browser's back button, to return to this page from the exercises. Ignore the "Contents" and "Next Exercise" buttons. Note: The items below that do not deal with a specific work include items from three works (Iliad, Epic of Gilgamesh, & Heptameron) not included on this semester's exam.
These interactive pages were made using the Hot Potatoes software from the University of Victoria Humanities Computing and Media Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. You will need to have Java enabled for these exercises to work. To enable Java in Microsoft Internet Explorer, click on Tools, Internet Options. Click the Security tab, then (with the setting on Internet), click on Custom Level. Scroll down until you see Java Permissions. If the radio button (the round space) for Disable Java is clicked, change it (setting it on High Safety works). If you plan to teach, you may want to bookmark the Hot Potatoes site!
Time, Place, Coverage:
See "Information about the Common Final Examination." Your instructor will tell you when and where you will take the exam.
