The instructor sitting in Mark Twain's study under a picture of Twain in the same spot and the same pose. ENG 2314: Survey of American Literature II (Spring 2010)

"The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter--it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning."--Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens)

Text: The text for spring 2010 will be volume 2 of the Norton Anthology of American Literature, Shorter Seventh Edition. The general editor is Nina Baym. If you obtain this book from a source other than the campus bookstore, be extremely careful to make sure you have the right volume of the right edition. There are several versions of the seventh edition, and of course there are also six older editions. It is possible to use the one-volume version of the shorter seventh edition, but the page numbers will be different from the ones I provide when I make assignments.
